Gated level crossing like at Oaklands

Received this comment from another OERA member today:

What I cannot understand is why they don't simply have a gated level crossing like at Oaklands. Would be simpler and cheaper. I'm sure Marion isn't the only station with a school nearby! What they don't seem to have addressed is the question of car parking by rail commuters and parents picking up children from school.  There are always cars parked all day in Fiscom and Bassi and several extras at school finishing time.

What do you think?

  1. I have used the Marion Station for years and have never encountered a problem. The majority of school children who have used it too have used the crossing maze rather than the overpass and I have not witnessed any problems. I guess surprisingly (sarcastic) that our children can cross a road they can cross train lines at a crossing. If the quiet electric trains are a worry what ever are we going to do when our cars are all quiet electric cars! A gated crossing is the most logical solution to Marion Station. I do not want any children or other women at risk forced into an unsafe underpass. To the planners: would you let your daughters or sons be put at risk or is it just other peoples children who don't matter?
